One week. That’s the gap between the call letter landing and the exam itself, and for the 16,575 candidates who cleared the prelims, the clock is now very real. The National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) has released the Assistant Mains admit card — the Phase II call letter — on 22 October 2026, for the Mains examination on 30 October 2026.
Let’s be real about what this is: a second-stage hall ticket, not a fresh application. Only candidates who qualified in the Phase I prelims, held on 27 August 2026 with its result declared on 8 October 2026, can download it. If you didn’t clear prelims, this link isn’t for you, and no amount of refreshing will change that. If you did, your call letter is live on the official NICL website now.

Five hundred posts, sixteen and a half thousand Mains candidates. The arithmetic is sobering, but it’s also why the next section matters more than the vacancy table. The Mains paper is 200 objective questions in 120 minutes, with separate timing for each section — you can’t bank time from Reasoning and spend it on English. Practise under that sectional clock this week, not under a comfortable open-ended one.
How to Download the NICL Mains Call Letter
- Go to the official website, nationalinsurance.nic.co.in.
- Open the Recruitment section on the homepage.
- Under “Recruitment of Assistants (Class-III)”, click “Click here to download Call Letter for Phase – 2 (Mains Examination)”.
- Enter your registration number / roll number and date of birth / password, plus the captcha shown.
- Your call letter will appear with your exam-day details.
- Download it, check every field, and print at least two copies for the exam hall.
A small, practical note on the date of birth field: the login expects it in DD-MM-YY format — two-digit day, two-digit month, two-digit year, with hyphens. Typing a four-digit year or slashes is the classic “invalid credentials” trap, and it wastes exactly the kind of evening you don’t have this week. If you’ve forgotten your registration number, dig out the confirmation message NICL or IBPS sent to your registered email or mobile when you first applied — don’t guess it.
Mains Exam Pattern and Shifts
| Section | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reasoning Ability | 40 | 40 | 30 minutes |
| English Language | 40 | 40 | 30 minutes |
| Numerical Ability | 40 | 40 | 30 minutes |
| General Awareness | 40 | 40 | 15 minutes |
| Computer Knowledge | 40 | 40 | 15 minutes |
| Total | 200 | 200 | 120 minutes |
The two shifts on 30 October run 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM — but your own shift and reporting time are printed on your call letter, and that’s the only timing that governs you. Negative marking is one-fourth of the marks assigned to a question, so wild guessing across 200 questions will bleed marks fast. And remember what comes after Mains: candidates shortlisted here still face a Regional Language Test, which is qualifying and carries no marks — but failing it ends the run all the same.
What to Check on Your Call Letter
- Your name, photograph and signature.
- Your roll number and registration number.
- The exam date, 30 October 2026, your shift and reporting time.
- Your examination centre address — and how you’ll actually get there.
- The exam-day instructions printed on the letter itself.
Spot an error? Contact the exam authority without delay — this week, not on 29 October. And carry the printed call letter plus a valid photo ID (Aadhaar, PAN, voter ID, driving licence or passport) to the centre. The same admit-card discipline applies everywhere: our BSF HC admit card post from yesterday made the same point, and it’s worth repeating because it’s still the most common avoidable failure on exam day.
Use the remaining days wisely, and be honest with yourself about where your marks leak. Most Mains candidates don’t lose out on hard questions — they lose out on the sectional clock, on a rushed English section after a slow Reasoning section, or on negative marking from guesses they never needed to make. Do two timed mocks under the real sectional limits, review every wrong answer the same evening, and keep your last day light: documents packed, centre route confirmed, call letter printed twice. That kind of dull, careful preparation is what turns a prelims qualification into a Mains score worth shortlisting.
