3,548 railway posts. One form. And a deadline you shouldn’t push to the last day.
Here’s an opportunity worth your attention. The Railway Recruitment Boards have opened applications for the RRB NTPC Graduate Level Recruitment 2026 — 3,548 posts across four non-technical categories, under Centralised Employment Notice CEN 06/2026. The detailed notification came out on 7 October 2026, applications opened on 8 October, and the window closes on 6 November 2026 at 11:59 PM.
NTPC is the recruitment every graduate in India knows about — the office-and-operations backbone of Indian Railways. This cycle looks a little different from the last one, though, and the differences matter. Two posts that used to be part of NTPC Graduate — Station Master and Traffic Assistant — are not in this notification. Read the post list carefully before you apply, or you’ll be hunting for a vacancy that doesn’t exist.

Vacancy break-up — 3,548 posts, four categories
Goods Train Manager alone accounts for more than three-quarters of the seats. Choose your post preferences with your eyes open — this choice shapes your entire railway career.
| Post | Vacancies | Pay Level (7th CPC) | Initial basic pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goods Train Manager | 2,750 | Level 5 | ₹29,200 per month |
| Senior Clerk cum Typist | 371 | Level 5 | ₹29,200 per month |

| Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor | 127 | Level 6 | ₹35,400 per month |
| Total | 3,548 |
The detailed notification raised the graduate count slightly from the 3,477 in September’s indicative notice to the final 3,548 — and 21 Railway Recruitment Boards are participating this cycle.
Who can apply
- Education: A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from a recognised university, held on or before 6 November 2026. Candidates awaiting their final results are not eligible — the notification is explicit about this, so don’t apply on hope.
- Age: 18 to 33 years as on 1 January 2027. Relaxation: SC/ST 5 years, OBC-NCL 3 years, PwBD 10–15 years depending on category, plus ex-servicemen and other categories as per rules.
- Choice of RRB: You apply through one RRB of your choice. Your post preferences and RRB choice are locked in with the form, so decide before you start, not mid-way through.
Application fee — and the refund most people forget
Here’s a detail worth knowing: almost the entire fee comes back if you actually sit for CBT 1.
| Category | Fee | Refund after appearing in CBT 1 |
|---|---|---|
| All candidates except concession categories | ₹500 | ₹400 (minus bank charges) |
| SC / ST / Ex-servicemen / PwBD / Female / Transgender / Minorities / EBC | ₹250 | ₹250 (minus bank charges) |
Pay online — net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI. One warning: EBC (Economically Backward Class) is a fee-concession category here and is not the same as EWS reservation. Don’t mix the two up while filling the form.
Selection process and exam pattern
Selection runs through CBT 1 (screening), CBT 2, document verification and medical examination. Two things changed this cycle: the Typing Skill Test has been dropped for Senior Clerk cum Typist and Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist (typing proficiency will be assessed after joining), and there’s no CBAT, since Station Master and Traffic Assistant aren’t in this notification.
CBT 1 — 100 questions, 100 marks, 90 minutes:
| Subject | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| General Awareness | 40 | 40 |
| Mathematics | 30 | 30 |
| General Intelligence & Reasoning | 30 | 30 |
CBT 2 — 120 questions, 120 marks, 90 minutes: General Awareness 50, Mathematics 35, General Intelligence & Reasoning 35. Both stages carry one-third negative marking per wrong answer. Minimum qualifying marks: UR/EWS 40%, OBC-NCL/SC 30%, ST 25% (with a small PwBD relaxation where notified). Eligible PwBD candidates using a scribe get 120 minutes in each CBT.
How to apply for RRB NTPC Graduate 2026
- Go to the official application portal, rrbapply.gov.in (or your chosen RRB’s website).
- Complete the one-time registration if you haven’t already — keep your email ID and mobile number active, because all communication lands there.
- Select CEN 06/2026 (NTPC Graduate), choose your RRB, and fill the form: personal details, education, post preferences in order.
- Upload your photo, signature and documents in the formats the portal asks for.
- Pay the fee online before 8 November 2026, submit, and save the confirmation page. Check every field before submitting — the correction window (9–18 November) exists, but some fields can’t be changed later.
Three mistakes that cost people this form
- Applying for Station Master. It isn’t in CEN 06/2026. If a coaching page tells you otherwise, it’s recycling last cycle’s list.
- Waiting till 6 November evening. RRB portals slow to a crawl on the last day, every single cycle. Apply at least a few days early.
- Wrong RRB choice. Cut-offs and vacancy counts differ by board. Pick the board whose region and post mix suits you — and remember you can only apply through one.
